I wrote a book….
It is not for everyone. This is a cautionary tale, of sorts, and it may speak to the vulnerable and the disenfranchised yet overjoyed; contrasting characteristics which can often set a discordant and unique trajectory in a life.
Writing it taught me to use a more compassionate lens to view the tenderness of a life; my own and others. There is trouble in the hearts of every human. It is often why we are here; to examine our difficulty and to learn and grow…but not always, which is why this book is not for everyone.
The alchemy of healing suggests that what is broken in a life transforms in value as treasure in the learning. We are all a work in progress and we are all witnesses to a better understanding of what is authentic within us and among us. I wrote Different Ways for myself and I offer it up in the spirit of testament.
There are over six billion human stories in this combustible world; mine is but one of them so...
I wrote a book...
Buffy St. Marie and Tanya Tagaq Spirit of the Wind
Whether you're woman or whether you're man
Sometimes you got to take a stand
Just because you think you can
You got to run, you got to run
Whether you're woman or whether you're man
Sometimes you got to take a stand
Just because you think you can
You got to run, you got to run
Trying against the odds, you're in a trance
Say, who did you think you are to have a chance?
You're a no one from a place where everyone
Knows your face, the come and go, way they know the sun
So you better hang on and hey, you better run
'Cause here's your chance and your race has begun
Down in a hole
You feel like two different people in your soul
Feel like a loser until you see that as you bend
You learn to be your own best friend
And you learn how and you learn when
To take a chance on the spirit of the wind
Whether you're woman or whether you're man
Sometimes you got to take a stand
Just because you think you can
You got to run, you got to run
Babe, ain't we been down
We been so broke and we been so low we kissed the ground
But you can see yourself a winner beyond the money and the greed
Beyond the pride is a pure untested need
To be a champion is more than luck and speed
It's power and freedom in the spirit of the wind
Whether you're woman or whether you're man
Sometimes you got to take a stand
Just because you know you can
You got to run, you got to run!
Standing Rock!
